What is it?

A training for business advisors who want to learn how to help the businesses they support to understand, define, measure and improve their environmental, social and governance performance.

The content covers material from Scotland CAN B’s 6-module Impact Journey methodology, with the addition of two extra bolt-on modules designed specifically with business support professionals in mind.

Who is it for?

You work directly with Scottish entrepreneurs and businesses, supporting & advising them on a daily basis.

  • You’ve noticed a growing demand from investors, employees or customers for businesses to provide transparency about the impact they make and want to know how to support businesses to meet this demand.

  • You’re noticing that the businesses who have a meaningful purpose, treat their people well and make choices which respect the natural world, seem to also become highly successful and profitable, and want to understand more about how doing good can be good for business, so that you can help others achieve the same.

  • You want to take a pioneering role in building the nationwide movement towards business as a force for good and helping businesses #BuildBackBetter towards creating an impactful, Wellbeing Economy in Scotland.

What will you learn?

Connect to the local and global context of the future of business, and your unique role within it.

  • Learn about a range of frameworks for impact; including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Scotland’s National Performance Framework (NPF), and how to apply them in a business context

  • Gain an in-depth understanding of the broad range of impactful business models and governance structures

  • Come away with confidence in using a selection of comprehensive and cutting-edge impact measurement tools

  • Feel excited and prepared to integrate impact expertise with the businesses you support.

Delivery format

The training delivered online, and is structured as a learning journey of 8 x interdependent modules, with self study homework set in between – see the example timeline below.  The time commitment for the training is 18 hours over 4 weeks.

Each module provides a combination of theory and practice. There will be frequent opportunities to ground your learning in reality using live case study examples, provided by you, of the businesses you support. We host a cohort communications channel throughout the programme via Slack to support with peer learning, coaching from our experts on case study specific questions, and to foster an ongoing community of collaborative impact expertise.
