“A Community of Practice is a group of people who share a common interest, passion, or profession. They interact regularly to solve problems, share knowledge, and continuously improve their skills, functioning as a peer-led way to learn from collective experience”
What makes a Community of Practice?
The Moray Business & Wellbeing Economy COP group is naturally cross-sector and diverse in nature. This rich mix of expertise, experience and worldview is part of the group’s source of strength.
All members are curious and committed to continuing their individual learning about how to “be” and “do” wellbeing economy and its crossover with business, enterprise and the economy – as well as being driven to make a meaningful contribution in a way that aligns well with them, their work and their life.
The Community of Practice is an entity unto itself, which means keeping focus on understanding what makes being a part of our group feel good, and what happens if this is overlooked or sacrificed.
“I think being a part of this group has helped me more in the past few years than I fully realise. There’s something about the feeling of alignment we have, and I always leave feeling inspired and energised.”
“I often experience siloed working and getting out of our sectoral box is really valuable”
“For me, being a part of this group is as much about understanding ourselves, to know where we really want to go in life.”
“One of the hallmarks of being a part of this group is that every member feels celebrated and welcome - we deliberately explore our own wellbeing at a personal level, partly because doing so might offer clues for how to elicit more wellbeing in the wider world.”
What outward value does the Community of Practice offer?
The group has a long-term intention of making a positive contribution to Moray’s communities and places by being a recognisable and accessible beacon for positive change. The group offers advice, inspiration, guidance, enthusiasm and encouragement for businesses, enterprising organisations and networks who find themselves grappling with similar questions and facing similar challenges.
An idea whose time has come: a resilient place-based model for continued learning
Ideas come in and out of fashion, politicians come and go and world events continue to affect everything in day-to-day life. Increasingly this means we need stable, reliable, welcoming and generative spaces to meet, learn together and act from. Launched and pioneered in Moray, the emergent nature of the Community of Practice model is demonstrating resilience and long-term potential for group learning. Scotland CAN B’s vision is to seed multiple place-based Communities of Practice across the nation.
